5 Habits to Implement in 2022

We all have habits that we would like to change or break, but few of us think of habits as a good thing. Whilst you might be looking at ways you can stop leaving washing up until the next day or waiting until your wardrobe is empty before doing the laundry, there are other habits you can try to get into to enhance other parts of your life.

As the new year rolls around, now is the perfect time to think about new habits you can start forming. 1. Developing a good bedtime routine

The importance of a good bedtime routine cannot be understated. If you lack sleep, you put yourself at a much higher risk of a myriad of health complications, including higher stress levels, obesity, lack of concentration, and diabetes.

There are several reasons why you might not be getting enough sleep, with a poor work/life balance being one of the leading factors, as well as a negative sleeping environment. With this in mind, try and better your chances of a good night’s sleep by ensuring your bedroom is cool and dark, going to bed at the same time every day, and spending at least an hour before bed away from blue light emitted by technology.

2. Exercise for 30 minutes every day

Most of us don’t get enough exercise and this can have a detrimental impact on our mental and physical health. Many experts recommend an hour a day, but for some people, this isn’t attainable. That being said, most people can weave in 30 minutes per day. Whether it’s a lunchtime walk or a short HIIT workout, any movement is better than no movement. It’s the effort that counts, so it’s worth getting into the habit of doing a little bit every day.

3. Volunteer or give to charity regularly

Want to feel good about yourself and help a person in need? Volunteer or donate to charity! Whether you take one Saturday morning off a month to hand out food at a homeless shelter, or if you simply set up a direct debit to a water appeal for Palestine, make 2022 the year you get into the habit of doing good deeds on a regular basis. Doing so will not only benefit the cause you’re supporting, but it can also lower your stress levels and have a positive effect of your own mental and physical health.

4. Prepare meals in advance

We’re all guilty of ordering takeout to the office because we didn’t have time to prepare lunch that morning, or having a bowl of cereal for dinner because we can’t be bothered to cook something proper after a long day. Rather than skimping on food and spending a fortune on takeaways, get into the habit of preparing food in advance. This means taking the time to batch cook things like soup, noodles, or even pasta. Pop it in the freezer and you’ll always have a back-up meal for those rushed mornings and tired evenings.

5. Drink more water

Drinking lots of water is essential, but most of us don’t get enough. One of the best habits you can get into is to drink a glass first thing in the morning and right before bed, as well as after each meal. You should start to feel for energized and perky, and your skin might start glowing, too.
