The first ever hybrid of McLaren, P1, is remembered for being an outstanding hypercar. It’s price tag was more than 1 million. However, now the automaker has decided to present the popular tech at a price which is affordable for many. They have launched the brand new McLaren Artura which is their first series production hybrid car.
Construction and Low Weight
It is manufactured on the fresh McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA). This ultra light engineering framework allows Artura to have a low dry weight of 1395 kg. This is a very low weight and is impressive because the motor and batteries along with other hybrid components are also included in it.
Moreover, a new petrol engine is also a reason as to why the weight has shed 50 kg over the V8 of McLaren 570S. When we talk about the engine, this hypercar is fueled by a blend of an electric motor and a twin turbocharged 3 liter V6. This combination offers a total 671 horses along with 804 Nm of torque.
McLaren Artura is designed to harness airflow to the best productive and maximum effect. The features of rear buttresses and hidden door inlet ducts drive the air over, through and under the vehicle. A massive 50 kg of downforce is produced by the rear spoiler and diffuser which gives rise to an excellent stability.
Power and speed
The engine is mated to an 8 speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Considering all of the firepower of this high performance hybrid powertrain, it is no surprise that the McLaren Artura can go from 0 to 100 kph in only 3 seconds.
This is only 0.2 seconds shorter than the legendary P1. As for the top speed, it is restricted to 330 kph. Since this is a plug-in hybrid, the McLaren Artura is capable of running on pure electric juice for 30 km.
By utilizing the standard charger, it’s batteries can be charged to 80% in only 2 and a half hours.
The powertrain boasts precision and pioneering technology which allows it to provide unrivaled driving experience.
What’s new for McLaren Artura?
Due to the revised construction, the McLaren Artura absorbs fresh updates on tech as well, both in entertainment and safety categories. In the safety list, there are the additions of high beam assist, adaptive cruise control, road sign recognition and lane departure warning.
As for the updates on the infotainment system, there are additions of smartphone mirroring, a new touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a Variable Drift Control Function. This function is restricted for only tracking.
Ease, convenience and comfort have been top priorities as well. This is obvious due to the soft close doors, power adjustable seats, nose lift and heated plus electrically foldable mirrors.
The aerodynamic efficiency is top notch and way more advanced. It helps to create a minimal and attractive design of the car.
In the interior, the driver is bound to feel an unreal driver engagement. The electro-hydraulic steering offers the best feedback whereas the E motor’s fast torque gives throttle response which is twice more quick than the pure petrol vehicles.
The price of the new McLaren Artura is US $225,000 which is AED 826,425. The price reduction is so huge that it is a quarter of what P1 hypercar used to cost when it first arrived. You can expect this iconic vehicle to be driving in GCC and UAE streets by the end of this new year.
Wrapping it up
Whether it is the advanced E differential or the rear suspension, all the elements combine to offer a unique and intensive driving experience. It’s blistering electrified power system, flexibility and driver engagement speak volumes about the brand’s extensive innovation.
It is low, lean and powerful. The ability to manage heat and airflow is exceptional because it allows the vehicle to have an ultra low center of gravity. It also gives rise to the ideal driving position.
All the curves and lines of the perfectly sculpted body is not without a reason. This sculpted exterior is further solidified by Superforming.
