TYPES OF GENERATORS AND GENERATOR PRICE IN KENYA

Generators serve the purpose of providing electricity temporarily in cases where there is no electricity either at home or at work. Nonetheless, generator is an all-inclusive term but it is important to note that there are many different types of generators. Each type of generator has its own characteristics and features and they are all used for different functions and purposes. Therefore, generator prices in Kenya vary due to the different types.

Below is an image of some generators in Kenya:

There is a wide variety of generators which are available for purchase. Some are designed for household use while some are meant for industrial purposes. The following are some of the most common types of generators in the country and their prices as well as their features and advantages. It is important to note that the features and the advantages of each generator are contributing factors to their cost.

Natural Gas generators

This type of generator is termed as one of the widely used and efficient means of generating power. These particular generators use either propane or liquefied petroleum to produce energy. Natural gas is easy to store in both above and below tanks which makes the generators very durable.

Natural gas is also readily available giving this particular generator and endless supply. This factor makes the natural gas generator very cheap because the gas is inexpensive as compared to other non-renewable fuels. An added advantage to this generator is that it burns the gas without producing a lot of waste. They also run quietly to minimise any form of disturbance.

They cost between 60,000 shillings to 250,000 shillings. However due to improvements on the same some may go for a higher price.

Diesel Generators

These generators use diesel fuel to run. Diesel is said to be the least flammable of all other fuels making the generator safe to use. Diesel generators use a combination of a diesel engine with an electric generator to produce electrical energy. These generators are common for their durable nature and lower maintenance levels.

The generator reduces heat and excessive burden on the engine since diesel burns way cooler than gasoline. If kept well, the diesel generators last for a very long time. The generator price in Kenya is between 100,000 shillings to half a million.

Standby Generators

They are also known as emergency power systems or back-up generators. These generators run on diesel or gas. Most have external tanks that last them for long hours before a refuel is needed. A standby generator has an automatic switch transfer which allows it to provide power when electricity goes off.

The most common uses of standby generators are for medical and life support systems, elevators, fire protection systems and many more. They cost between 250,000-500,000 Kenyan shillings.

Portable generators

They are mainly used for providing temporary electrical power. They mainly use diesel. Portable generators comprise of a combustion engine which aids in producing and conducting electricity. They are famous for providing quick solutions because they do not stay for long hours.

They are the cheapest types of generators. They cost between 15,000 to 45,000 Kenyan shillings.

The above are just some of the many types of generators available in the Kenyan market. It is however clear that the generator prices in Kenya differ from the types and the features that come with each generator.
